Sending Love & Light!

Our Christmas Card theme this year is “Sending Love & Light”.  We felt this was appropriate since we included a selfie with the Eiffel Tower lit up.

Wishing our family & friends a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and any other holiday you may celebrate!

Bonjour – Merci – Au Revior:  3 simple words made our trip to France amazing!

A trip we had planned to take in 2020 finally happened in June 2023.  We spent 2 weeks (re)visiting sites in Paris, meeting new people on our Insight Tour to Normandy & the Loire Valley, and ending with 2 “magical” days at Disneyland Paris.

In 2003 we had the opportunity to visit Paris, France for a week (it was our first international trip).  James worked for part of the week and Julie enjoyed the sites with a few other spouses.  Fast forward, 20 years later, and we visited some of the same sites and areas we experienced the first time.  The difference between these 2 adventures – we are older and a bit braver with our willingness to seek out our own excursions.  This trip we experienced both ends of the spectrum with both self-guided and pre-planned travel.

On our own:  Visited several Paris sites, figured out how to take the train to and from Vernon (Giverny) to see Claude Monet’s house and gardens, rode the Metro across the city several times including a trip to Versailles (we never accidently went the wrong direction!), and rode the RER to Disneyland Paris toting our suitcases.

On the tour:  Coach ride to several well known sites North and West of Paris.  Rouen, Omaha Beach, Mont-St-Michel, Chateau de Chenonceau, and Chartres to name a few.  Without the coach tour, we probably would not have seen the beautiful country side or learned about the history of this area.

The website now includes this trip, our daily activities, and a smattering of pictures.

Apprécier (Enjoy)!

A Bright Colorful Rose

In 2003 we made our first international trip visiting Paris, France. One of the highlights for James was visiting the cathedral of Notre Dame. While we had our first digital camera, the “big” camera was still film and James was just learning what photography meant to him. He did manage to get this picture of the south facing rose window from inside the dark building.

We’ve decided to return to France this summer. While we won’t be able to go inside the cathedral, as repairs from the 2019 fire are still ongoing, we recently completed a puzzle of the same window James tried to photograph.

Dreaming of wandering

Met with our Travel Agent over the weekend to debrief on our Scotland journey. We enjoyed reliving our trip and sharing pictures. We have not yet decided on our next adventure but we have several ideas! Tropical? Chilly? Domestic? International? Coach? Cruise? Northern hemisphere? Western Hemisphere? The options are endless!

In May 2020 we were scheduled to take a trip to Paris. We were going to try and survive with only carry on luggage. We intended to make this journey one of our own making; meaning no organized group travel. The plan was to experience Disneyland Paris for a few days and then stay in Paris. Day trips were planned to Giverny (home of Monet) and to Mont St Michel. With the piece de resistance attending a show at The Moulin Rouge.

Maybe we should rebook the trip to Paris for 2023 before the city is overrun with Olympians in 2024. Hmmm….. something to ponder as I dream of wandering.
